Public engagement on the protection of Chasàn Chùa (McIntyre Creek) has begun.
This is a joint effort by the Government of Yukon, Kwanlin Dün First Nation, Ta'an Kwäch'än Council, City of Whitehorse, and Parks Canada.
How to participate
You can participate by:
Attending the Open House at Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre on Wednesday, November 6 from 11am-2pm and 4pm-8pm
Taking the survey at www.chasanchua.ca/have-your-say until December 6th.
The gap between our neighbourhood and the protected area
The current proposed protected area excludes a large area of greespace and watershed between the Takhini neighbourhood at the park boundary.

In this excerpt from a map on the public engagement web site, the orange area is the proposed park and the blue line is McIntyre Creek.
A large gap of green space between Takhini and the boundary, much of which is already a City of Whitehorse protected area, is excluded from the proposed Chasàn Chùa (McIntyre Creek) protected area. This is an area beloved of residents in Takhini and other parts of Whitehorse and encompasses a heavily used paved trail, the disc golf course, the remediating quarry, and many trails used for biking, hiking, skiing and walking.
This area is also right beside McIntyre Creek and so protecting it is essential to protecting the watershed. It's worth noting that sections of the creek itself are not included in the proposed protected area.
Although some of the area is identified as Yukon University Land Reserve, it's important to note that this does not inherently preclude it from protection, nor does it ensure protection.
The Association will provide input to the public engagement advising that this area should be included within the protected area. We encourage you to provide similar input.
